Y Camp Marrowbone

YMCA Camp Marrowbone provides a safe and supportive environment for kids to learn, explore, and grow. We focus on meeting each camper where they are and working with them to realize their greatest individual and collective potential. Our goal is to teach life skills through the character traits of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility and traditional Lakota values. Our weeklong camp experience results in new friendships, the opportunity to try all sorts of activities, and a place to call home.

Staff and Campers enjoying a talent show at Camp Marrowbone

At YMCA Camp Marrowbone, the impact of camp goes far beyond a week of activities. It creates meaningful, lasting growth in the lives of youth. Research conducted in partnership with Clemson University found that campers experience significant improvements in confidence, independence, and social skills as a result of their time at camp. Campers reported increased feelings of belonging, stronger connections with peers and mentors, and greater confidence in their ability to take on challenges. In fact, the majority of participants showed measurable growth in key areas like autonomy (72%), competence (76%), and relatedness (81%), all of which are critical to long-term success and well-being. Most importantly, these positive outcomes were consistent across all campers, regardless of age, gender, or previous camp experience. Demonstrating that Camp Marrowbone provides an inclusive environment where every young person has the opportunity to grow. By fostering a safe, supportive space rooted in both YMCA values and traditions, Camp Marrowbone helps youth become more confident, connected, and prepared for the future
